Mee Rebus Tulang (Tulang means bone in Malay)

    Mutton tulang.......with mee rebus
I had just discovered a new eatery in the North, Sembawang. This is another sedap dish to makan - Tulang in mee rebus!!! The meat was juicy and tender, soaked in mee rebus kuah (gravy).
If you love tulang, try this dish. Its Madina Eating House, the row of shophouses next to the Sembawang Shopping Centre.
Roti John, Soto Ayam, Ayam Pengyet, nasi padang, Murtabak and many other delicious Indian Muslim dishes can be found here.......don't forget to order teh terik or teh halia from the mamak too!!!
    Enjoy!

    Ayam Pengyet (Crushed chicken)

I know majority of Singaporeans love the so called "Ayam Pengyet" in Changi Village......I've tried it and today, I tried a different version in Sembawang, Madina Coffeeshop (nex to a bicycle shop), next to Sembawang Shopping Centre......
The texture was surprisingly better than the Changi Village kedai. Tempeh, taukwa, chicken, vegetables, soup & sambal were served with rice.
I found a new Indian Muslim cafe in the North. A small & cozy makan place to explore.

    Teh Halia - Ginger Tea

    The Sarabat stall......
I love drinking Teh Halia (Halia means ginger in Malay), kurang manis (less sugar) , after a hearty meal. Nowadays, we can hardly spot a "Mamak" Sarabat uncle, like the guy above.....he was preparing the teh, tarik (tarik means pull)......the higher you pour, the foamier it gets.....the more halia, the warmer your tummy feels.......shiok! Best, to go with a good hot goreng pisang or prata!

Salted Fish, Chicken & Toufu Soup

Salted ikan kurau fish, diced toufu & chicken were added to the soup.......I like using the slow cooker to simmer this dish as it brings out the wonderful flavour of the chicken (I used half kampong chicken) and the salted fish.......also added were ginger slices, shallots and spring onion for garnishes.

Stir Fried Kiam Chye, Taukwa & Diced Pork

Another popular Teochew dish which goes very well with porridge. Kiam chye stir fried with diced pork, sliced chilli and taukwa..........this dish gets better when it is kept in the fridge for 2-3 days, because the kiam chye (salted vegetables) is well absorbed into taukwa.

    Braised Chicken, Cantonese Style

I like the aroma of sesame oil, ginger and lots of crushed garlic in this braised chicken. Add rice to the marinates and stir fry in the claypot, you'll get "Sar Poh Fun" (claypot rice)!!! I've added hua teow wine, oyster sauce, a tinge of sugar, light & dark sauce, pepper to the chicken.
Sakura Chicken was used for this recipe.

Mee Siam Kering - Fried Bee Hoon, Mee siam style

This is another way bee hoon can be fried, Mee Siam Kering........without the taucheo and mee siam sauce. I added minced beef, koo chye, tau pok, chye sim, minced dried prawns, chilli and shallots. Don't forget to add some lime juice over it!!!!

    A Typical Hainanese Breakfast...........

Its wrapped up like a ketupat and filled with glutinous rice
    Tasted like Bak Chang

    Fried sliced carrot cake

This is rather another interesting Hainanese cake-glutinous rice cake coated with ginger & dessicated coconut
We headed to Liang Siang Street for our breakfast on Sunday........I like the breakfast served in YY Coffeeshop (as per my earlier write-ups). Hainanese cakes & fried black noodles are served every morning in YY.
Half boiled eggs are boiled to your perfection and dipped in delicious sour dough bread.

If you have time for breakfast, this is the place for a good typical yummy breakfast with your family!!!
Should you know what the above cakes are called, please drop me a note.........and thanks for dropping by.
